A FEW WORDS TO REMIND YOU THAT CANCER WILL PASS!

By Fernie

Hello, my name is Fernie. I am a sheep with Cancer.   When the doctors told me I was sick, I was very afraid because I didn’t understand what Cancer meant. But then they explained to me that they were going to give me a treatment that was going to help me get all better again.   I didn’t like the medicine one bit, it made me feel very tired and yucky in my belly. Those were the bad days. But then I would recover my energy and be all bouncy again.   A lot of kids have cancer too, like you and me, and the people at the hospitals are very nice and very kind.   They reminded me that the bad days would pass, and that every day I was getting closer to feeling great again.

Sometimes I don’t feel like singing, or jumping, or playing, but my friends are ok waiting for me to feel good again. And when I feel all strong and well, we play my favorite games! I like jumping over and head butting my friends! I’m very good at it! And we all laugh a lot in those good days. One day soon, it will be all good days again, with lots of play and fun school days. My hair will grow back too. Well…I might decide to keep it shaved as it looks very cool!

And while I still fight Cancer, this is what I learned. Cancer can’t touch our souls, our hearts, or our minds. It doesn’t take away all the love we feel, or all the people around us who love us. Cancer is just a word that represents a time of physical trial; a fight that we are fighting and will conquer soon.

Sometimes it feels like this is a difficult road, but it has been a path that made my faith stronger and my heart full of happy things too. This road reminds me to keep my hope up. It gives me lots of reasons to fight and even to laugh, and it reminds me of all the love I have around me and how much I love them too.

If you are fighting Cancer like me, know that you are not alone! Every day I’m sending you my love. I hope to play with you on your good days, and comfort you on the not so great ones too.

Head bumps and smiles,

Fernie
